My background

Growing up in Spain I was educated at an international college where both my geography teacher and maths teacher were proud Scots. It was from them that I gleaned my first taste of Scottish culture. To this day I can still remember my maths teacher in a kilt on Burns Night reciting “Address to a Haggis” with incredible passion to a very confused but equally enthralled international class. Learning about the Scottish glaciated landscape during my Geography class made me apply to study Geography and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh. I had no idea what to expect but it has been one of the best decisions of my life.

At Edinburgh

Currently I am on secondment to Help Services as an IT services Manager. The role is incredibly varied and challenging. My main focus in the role is running the IT Support Desk at the Main Library which provides IT Support from fellow students and focuses on improving the student experience with regards to IT at the University. Other parts of my role revolve around providing IT consultancy to Help Services running the Ucreate service and managing the disabled student exams IT requirements.

One of the most inspiring parts of my job is working with the current students that are IT Assistants at our IT Support Desk. They are all so dedicated to helping their fellow students resolve IT problems and will also be assisting with Disability Support during the exam period. Their enthusiasm and desire to help others inspires me every day.

One of the most inspiring parts of my job is working with the current students...their enthusiasm and desire to help others inspires me every day.

Something I know...

I have a love for period and historic buildings and passion for learning traditional skills. At the moment I’m learning restorative carpentry and in my spare time repairing and restoring all my original sash and case windows in a grade C listed building.
