Were the Sochi Winter Olympics a happy reminder of time spent on the snow and ice during your university days? We look back at the Curling Club’s 40th anniversary and celebrate our winter sports heritage. Image Edinburgh University Curling Club (EUCC) celebrated 40 years of Sports Union recognition with a bonspiel and dinner held at Murrayfield Curling Rink. The tournament, which featured mixed teams of alumni and current students, was the culmination of a year spent building relations with alumni, many of whom have continued the sport, often to national and international levels. A bonspiel is a curling tournament, consisting of several games, often held on a weekend. Historically many were held outdoors on a frozen freshwater loch. Curling champions Alumni in attendance at the February 2013 event, included former Scotland international, Lindsay Scotland, and former Scottish Ladies Junior Champion, Alison Dick. After some very close matches the team skipped by former President Alan Chalmers (1988/89) won, and were presented with a trophy by Alan MacDonald, one of the Club’s founding members.
