On Sunday 23 June former members of the Edinburgh University Air Squadron (EUAS) gathered at Old College to remember a time in the 1950s and 60s when EUAS offered flying training to undergraduates. Image Twenty six former members met in the historic Raeburn Room and enjoyed a reception with welcoming remarks from current Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University, Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea. Photographs and further information can be found on the EUAS website. Reunions on the EUAS website Just the beginning The reunion proved just the beginning as Sunday 1 September saw a follow-up mini-reunion at Bruntsfield Links Golf Club. This event attracted enthusiastic ex-EUAS member, Keith Dunbar, who hadn’t been able to attend the initial gathering and came all the way from Achiltibuie, a village in Ross and Cromarty, to meet with former EUAS colleagues. The avalanche of activity didn’t stop there, as those who attended the 23 June meeting were invited by another participant, Neil Henriksen, to document thoughts regarding how membership of the Squadron affected their lives. Tom Wilson and his wife Joan have also been compiling a contact list of former EUAS members. If you would like to add your name to this list, please send your details to the alumni office and we will pass them on to Tom. alumni@ed.ac.uk EUAS website Image Keith Dunbar was similarly inspired and has recently launched an EUAS related website, The website includes a concise history of the Squadron, brief reports and photos from both reunions and the Neil Henriksen-inspired reflections (called “logs”). There is also a comprehensive listing of those who joined EUAS during its brief lifetime, an ever-expanding number of Squadron-related photos, plus videos of Chipmunks in flight. For reunion organiser, Ron Gardiner, these videos are a particular highlight. He notes that, the aerobatic display filmed in Australia is outstanding and (for me at least) emotionally very nostalgic!
