Your time at the University

At 29 years old, with seven years of work experience (five of which were focused on Credit Risk) in the finance and banking sector I knew I would need to bring a unique approach to the table for progression in my industry which is why I chose to do an MBA (Master of Business Administration) at the University of Edinburgh.  At the University’s Business School, I was exposed to new theories and techniques, and I met an incredible group of individuals from different disciplines who helped me develop as a thinker. I ultimately returned to my employer with a wealth of skills and new approach to business which allowed me to stand out from the crowd and the anticipated promotion/responsibilities were quick to follow.

I chose Edinburgh for its far-reaching influence and diverse student body. My fellow classmates were, and still are, my biggest inspiration and I still call upon shared experiences from everyone’s own communities in my own approach to business.

Tell us about your Experiences since leaving the University

After graduating in 2005 I enjoyed three solid years within the banking industry and applied the theory I had learned during my studies to develop my skills even more.  Following the financial crisis in 2008, I exited the industry and using the knowledge I had learnt at the Business School and contacts established through banking I set up the first of my businesses, Vantage Leasing, which offers new vehicle leasing to businesses and individuals throughout the UK.  The success of this business allowed me to branch into car retail and in March this year I opened my first purpose built car dealership, Vantage Cars, specialising in the prestige used car market.  The MBA has allowed me to understand growth, strategy, and entrepreneurship in business that I could not have learned elsewhere and has given me the skills to operate both these businesses well and build a successful property portfolio in the background.
