Name Jason Miller Degree Geographical Information Systems Year of Graduation 1999 Image Your time at the University I spent a year at the University of Edinburgh doing a masters degree, and what a fantastic year it was! I chose the course at Edinburgh because it was one of the best in the UK for Geographical Information Systems, and being able to live and study in Edinburgh was a dream I always had. Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities to study in. The course was excellent and opened the doors for me to get into a career in digital. During my year, I worked hard and played hard. I made friends that I will stay in touch with for the rest of my life. Most significantly, I met my now wife on the course, so our time at Edinburgh together is a very treasured memory for us both. I managed to earn a Masters degree in GIS with Distinction. During my year, I worked hard and played hard. I made friends that I will stay in touch with for the rest of my life. Jason Miller Tell us about your experiences since leaving the University After graduating, I immediately moved into web development, and within a year I had my first web development business with a business partner. Since then we’ve grown a number of web companies together. We have worked with the likes of Sainsbury's, Asda, Jet2.com, Thornton's Chocolates, B&Q, Screwfix and Weetabix to name a few big brands. Most recently we formed a fantastic boutique creative digital agency called SteadyGo. Based in Leeds, we have a superb team of digital experts across creative, design and marketing. It is four years old now and has been a great success so far. SteadyGo prides itself on getting the most for our clients across digital marketing, web design and development, and social channel management. Another achievement along the way was being in a semi-professional band for about 10 years. I played in the UK, Europe, the USA and Canada; recorded three albums in the UK and France; played sets at Glastonbury Festival; and supported bands on tour, such as The Coral, Embrace and Snow Patrol. Our music has been played across Radio 1, Radio2 and BBC 6 Music - so not bad! All of these things are directly attributable to my year in Edinburgh and doing that masters course. Alumni wisdom Work hard and have fun: your time at Edinburgh will zip by and will probably be the most fun years of your life. Apply yourself now and do well: it will only give you more choices later on.
