Your time at the University

I chose Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh for the one-year Master of Art in Contemporary Art Theory program because I wanted to expand my studio art practice beyond my American Abstract Expressionism style.

While my academic studies led me in the directions of my interests, I also need to acknowledge my off-campus experiences that influence my current art practice. These off-campus experiences range from visiting Scottish Social Histories Museums to the various art venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

A few of the disciplines I have borrowed from are material culture, curatorial methods, and the social sciences.

Your experiences since leaving the University

My academic studies at Edinburgh College of Art have led me to my current interdisciplinary practice. A few of the disciplines I have borrowed from are material culture, curatorial methods, and the social sciences.

I draw from several digital sources such as video, web presentation and social media sites. My focus with these inquiries can be seen in my projects and writings. I have published and given research-related presentations with art and anthropological professional organizations.

As a participatory element, my public raffle concept was included in the Spring 2016 On the Line program. On the Line is part of the University of California, Riverside and the Community of Riverside USA programming that includes performance and research to explore ecology and clotheslines.

My Collection Project was included in OUT OF CONTEXT an online exhibition curated by Heit &Haikes with a limited engagement for Philly Tech Week 2017 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA.

My current project with suburban fieldwork of audio recordings, a suburban sound collection, and digital imagery will culminate in an upcoming film concerning a neighborhood that has not rebounded from the 2008 American recession.

Alumni Wisdom

Venture off campus as much as you can and let your curiosity lead you to new environments and investigations. It will show up later in some manner in your research and/or related work.
