Your time at the University

When choosing which university to go to, I first looked at the cities/towns, then the universities within the locations. Edinburgh stood out as a beautiful city, full of stuff to do, without being completely overwhelming. After deciding Edinburgh was the city for me, there was only really one university that I wanted to go to and that was UoE. (I didn’t even apply to the others!)

I jumped into the university life and joined many of the societies and clubs available, as well as being a member of Edinburgh University Students' Association. One of my most memorable experiences was doing a summer project with the ATLAS collaboration in Geneva, where I travelled to Switzerland with the University.

Your experiences since leaving the University

Currently I’m Managing Director of a marketing and branding agency called Ignite Your Brand. My career path has been varied but quick paced and vibrant. I finished my exams on a Friday and started with games developer 4J studios on the Monday working on Minecraft: console editions, before joining Rockstar Games to work on Grand Theft Auto V.

I then set up my first company, ClickStudy, an online educational platform for schoolkids to revise for their exams. Despite failing, I learned a lot with my first venture then used that knowledge to set up Cappuccino Ads which ran for over five years and became the biggest company of its kind in the UK. We put advertising on environmentally friendly takeaway coffee cups and distributed them to over 300 independent coffee shops across Scotland. I then did some consultancy work before joining Ignite Your Brand, where I’ve been for the last 2 years.

Alumni wisdom

Don’t be scared to fail or try something new after you graduate. Some of the best experiences I’ve had in my life have only happened because I put myself far out of my comfort zone.
