Thanks to the generous support of The University of Edinburgh USA Development Trust, Edinburgh students will have the opportunity to study in the United States during the summer of 2013. Two students from the University’s Business School will attend an eight-week programme at Stanford University. The Stanford Summer International Honors ProgramThe Stanford Summer International Honors Program (SSIHP) brings students from fifteen elite universities from ten countries to Palo Alto for an intensive eight-week programme. Students may take options from across a range of disciplines and areas of study. Image The Edinburgh Business students will take courses in Global Management. The programme in Global Management considers aspects of business development such as economics, technology entrepreneurship, decision-making, and money and banking. Students are encouraged to think about industry in a global context, in addition to how practices pioneered in Silicon Valley might succeed in other contexts. They will take six courses during the eight-week programme. Course options range from Global Literature to International Finance to Investment Science.Range of ExperiencesIn addition to their experiences in the classroom students will visit technology firms in Silicon Valley as well cultural and historic sites in San Francisco. Additional excursions allow programme participants to experience the bucolic beauty of Napa Valley and the Pacific Ocean. On campus, SSHIP offers several speaker series, including intimate faculty get-togethers with Nobel laureates in physics, political scientists who have served in national government, and medical researchers working at the forefront of their fields.Among its academic and social benefits, SSHIP will enhance the portfolios of the students who participate if they seek further study or to enter the job market after graduation.Generous SupportWe are very grateful that two Edinburgh students will be able to participate in the SSHIP.
