The University of Edinburgh is excited to be launching a new student support partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland Foundation (ICAS). Image ICAS will provide around five generous bursaries each year to students studying accounting, finance and management as part of their degree.Students receiving an award will also develop their career skills on paid summer internships with several of the organisation’s leading firms, as well as working closely with personal mentors.Inspiring studentsThe awards have been established to inspire students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to consider a career in the world of accounting and finance.ICAS will also be working with the University’s Widening Participation team to develop a scheme complementing the bursaries to encourage those students that are being specifically sought by this these professions.Providing opportunitySir David Tweedie, Chair of the ICAS Foundation, is keen to stress the importance of providing opportunities for all, saying, It is vitally important the ICAS and Chartered Accountants do all we possibly can to give any aspiring younger person from a disadvantaged background the opportunity to succeed. These future financial and management professionals need help to get on and stay on the ladder of progress.
