Based in San Diego, Sara Normand Cavalieri's role ensures the University can recruit the best students from the west coast of North America. Image My background I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, in the U.S. and went to Ohio University to study an undergraduate degree in sports journalism, where I had the unique opportunity to intern with the Cincinnati Reds, the oldest professional baseball club. During my programme, I decided to study abroad in Adelaide, Australia, and this experience inspired a love for travel and overseas study. That’s when I decided to keep my love of sports and writing as a hobby instead of a career, and I came back to Australia to complete a Master of Education at the University of New South Wales in Sydney with the goal of working in international education Encouraging students to broaden their horizons by studying overseas is something I am passionate about. For four years, I worked in a study abroad office in Perth, Australia, and I spent another four years based in Curitiba, Brazil, where I recruited students from the Americas to study in Australia. I guess you could say that I kind of fell into this field, but I find it very rewarding! At Edinburgh Last year I returned to the U.S. to start my role as a Regional Admissions Representative for Edinburgh, based in San Diego. My role is about promoting all levels of study at the University throughout the west coast of North America and assisting students during the application process. I’m most inspired by my colleagues on the North America team and have learned so much in my first year. They are genuinely the best group of people I’ve ever worked with! I hope to be able to contribute toward continued growth in interest in the University from this region and maintaining Edinburgh’s status as the number one choice for North Americans in the UK. Something I know... I think people may not realise the scale of the University’s engagement and reach overseas; in addition to my post as part of the North America regional team (headquartered in New York), there are also four other regional centres across the world in China, Singapore, India and Chile. In terms of my own expertise, some people may not know that I am really interested in languages; I speak Portuguese, a little Spanish and am starting to learn Italian as well.
