Sir Chris Hoy is a track cyclist and six-time Olympic gold medal winner. Image Chris, who graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Sports Science in 1999, is Scotland’s most successful Olympian, and the most successful male Olympic cyclist of all time. In his sporting career, he has won seven Olympic medals and has twice won gold at the Commonwealth Games. Moreover, he is 11 times UCI Track Cycling World Champion and has won 25 World Championship medals. In 2005, he was appointed MBE for services to cycling and was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the University. After a triple gold medal win at the Beijing Olympics, Chris was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2008. He was awarded a Knighthood for services to sport in the 2009 New Year Honours list. My time spent studying at Edinburgh was a very important stage of my career. Not only was I working to improve my physical abilities, I was actually learning about the principles of what I was doing.
