Edinburgh based research and consultancy firm, Wood Mackenzie, are the generous winners of an online art auction, raising £5000 for Access Bursaries at the University of Edinburgh. Image Stephen Halliday, CEO of Wood Mackenzie and Senior Vice Principal Mary Bownes. ‘Edinburgh from Blackford Hill’ by award winning painter Gordon McDowall was commissioned by Edinburgh alumnus Mark Astaire and donated to the University to raise money for Access Bursaries. It was the first time that a charity internet auction has been used to raise money for the University.The winning bidA winning bid of £3000 secured the painting for the Edinburgh office of Wood Mackenzie, a global research firm and consultants in energy, metals and mining industries. They generously increased this to £5000 - all of which has gone directly towards funding the University Access Bursary Programme.Stephen Halliday, CEO of Wood Mackenzie visited the University of Edinburgh to accept the company’s purchase from Senior Vice Principal Mary Bownes.About access bursariesEach year the University awards more than 700 access bursaries - each worth up to £2500 - to help students meet living costs whilst studying.
