Join alumni and students for a rowing reception The annual Edinburgh University Boat Club Henley Royal Regatta Reception takes place on Saturday 6 July at 7pm at Henley Cricket Club. A great chance to meet up with fellow Edinburgh alumni. Find out more 5. Chemists mark glove waste recycling milestone Image 5. The gloves are off (to the recycling bin) Students and staff in the School of Chemistry are marking having saved one million pairs of disposable gloves from landfill. The School has recycled about 85 per cent of all its used laboratory gloves – amounting to 15 tonnes – since introducing a pioneering recycling scheme in late 2014. Find out more 6. Events celebrate centenary of Italian Studies Image 6. 100 years of Italian Studies The University’s centre for excellence in Italian language and culture has launched a series of events to celebrate its 100th birthday. An event to mark the milestone hosted by Linda Fabiani MSP, Deputy Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, will consider what the future holds for the discipline at Edinburgh. It will take place at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 26 June. More information 7. Edinburgh ranked among world’s best Image 7. Edinburgh's high ranking The latest international university rankings have reaffirmed Edinburgh’s position as a leading global institution. The QS World University Rankings 2020 have placed the University 20th in the world. Edinburgh is once again fifth in the UK, the highest position of any Scottish university. More information 8. MS maps reveal regional variation in Scotland Image 9. Orkney is key in new MS study Orkney continues to top the table for rates of multiple sclerosis in Scotland, a study has revealed. Tayside has the highest incidence of the disease in mainland Scotland, while the central belt and Borders have the lowest rates of MS.
