EUCL visit to Clothworkers’ Hall Visit Clothworkers’ Hall for a private 90 minute tour with the Edinburgh University Club of London. Founded by Royal Charter in 1528, the original purpose of the Clothworkers’ Company was to protect its members and promote the craft of cloth-finishing within the City of London. The Company archives contain a rich collection of historic documents dating from about 1480 onwards. The Clothworkers’ very special collection of tapestries, plate, clocks and other works of art can be seen at the Hall. This collection has been created, developed and preserved over the centuries despite the loss of previous halls to the Great Fire of London and the devastation of the Blitz. As one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies, the Clothworkers enjoy a close bond of friendship and co-operation with other Livery Companies and the City Corporation. The Company takes pride in performing its civic obligations and contributing to the living history of London. Further information about the Clothworkers and their Hall is available at www.clothworkers.co.uk. Afternoon tea at the Savoy After the tour, there is a table booked at the Savoy Hotel for those who want to extend the afternoon. The Savoy has been renovated in grand and elegant style and offers one of the best afternoon teas in London. The afternoon tea is not included in the tour price. If you would like to join EUCL at the Savoy please confirm your attendance by Monday 9 November. Further details Meet at the Clothworkers’ Hall at 14:00 prompt to meet the Clothworkers’ archivist, who will be our guide.
