She has lived in Edinburgh since the 1960s and served as the city’s Makar (poet laureate) between 2014 and 2017. Since retiring, Christine has been able to devote more time to writing poetry, both in English and Shetland dialect (a blend of Old Scots with much Norse influence). Her first collection, ‘Voes & Sounds’, won the Shetland Literary Prize in 1996 and several of her poems have been selected for the Scottish Poetry Library’s Best Scottish Poems over the years. Her poems have been translated into several languages and her debut novel, ‘And then forever’, was published in 2011.
