About our guests Image Dea and Alex Dea Birkett Chosen object: ringmaster's jacket Recording location: London Dea is a former circus performer and current Ringmaster of Circus250, established in 2018 to celebrate and showcase circus to new audiences. As a student in the late 1970s, Dea studied Politics and Philosophy at the University and went on to do a PhD at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, also studying in Ibadan, Nigeria. Alongside her work in Circus250, Dea is also Creative Director of Many Rivers Films and former Director of Kids in Museums, a charity dedicated to making museums more inclusive of families. Throughout lockdown, Dea has taken up cold water swimming ... sometimes in a paddling pool in the garden. He has just completed a group project which involved blogging (and vlogging) about life as a medical student during the pandemic. When he’s not busy with online lectures and tutorials, you’ll find Alex exercising his musical skills. Obtaining a diploma on the violin in 2019, he is a multi-instrumentalist and is currently in the throes of his lockdown project: producing his debut album. Watch this space.
